So pack warm clothing, sturdy shoes and a hat – in return, the city is much quieter than in high season. If you can, plan trips to Garni and Geghard early in the day when the sun is still out.

Once there, you can get around the city easily by metro, buses and cheap taxis. Money-saving tip: best to book taxi rides in advance via app, then it stays cheap. Prices in supermarkets and smaller restaurants are low; in the center you’ll usually pay between 5 and 10 euros for a meal. For the airport transfer, the bus is worth it – it goes cheaply into the center.
